Almost Summer Bookhaul!

Hi guys!

So, the sun is shining over here ('s been rainy these past few days). And what does the sun make me want to do?

Now, the standard answer would be "buy books to read outside." However, if you've been sticking around with me for these past 2 years, you'll know that I'm an interesting person in the sense I dislike the heat. So when the sun is bright and the temperatures are bringing to soar, for me it's the absolutely perfect weather to be sprawled out comfortably in my room, nose buried in a book. (Please believe me when I say I have good reasons for disliking heat.)

Regardless! Sun = perfect time to read books = books = book haul!

So without further ado (no games this time either, as fun as it was last time), allow me to present my latest beauties :)

Ahhh, aren't they marvellous? A lovely total of 9 books (though there's no one picture with all of them in it), hooray! So, in no particular order:

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas: OH MY GOD GUYS THIS BOOK. I just finished it. Fun fact: though it's longer than ACOMAF by something like 100 pages, the overall book is thinner. Yes, you heard me right! The reason is that the pages are thinner. Like super-thin. Like oh-my-god-I-better-not-tear-these-precious-pages thin!

The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertali: The moment I heard there was going to be another book in the Simon vs the Homo sapiens Agenda world, I had this book marked down. This book is a spinoff of Simon, and revolves around a character very distantly acquainted with Simon himself. As Simon remains to be my favourite contemporary book of all times, I'm super excited to see what else the author has in store!

Secrets of the Tally by Halie Fewkes: The author was super nice and sent me a hardcopy of the book! How amazing is that? The cover is super shiny and pretty, believe me :) Apparently, there IS a secret for readers to figure out throughout the series... Cool!

Three Dark Crowns by Kendra Blake: Ever since I read the synopsis of this book, I've been itching to get my hands on it. And, luckily for me, the book gods were kind, and gifted one of my best friends this book, who then offered it to me instead, as it's not really her genre. THANK YOU! I owe this one to her :)

The Dark Prophecy by Rick Riordan: The continuation of Apollo's crazy mortal adventures! I enjoyed the first book, and am looking forward to this one. Apollo's narration is hands-down the funniest of all Riordan's protagonists, given his narcissism (I mean, he's a god who finds himself in the puny mortals lands. Clearly he expects everyone to get down on their knees to worship him!) What hilarious adventures will Apollo, aka the unfortunately renamed Lester Papadopoulos, get up to now?

The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson: The second book to the Mistborn series! This and the Hero of Ages were gifted to me by a wonderful person, the same person who gifted me the first Mistborn book. I've heard nothing but great things about it from him, so I'm excited to continue the story!

The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson: The third and final book to the first Mistborn series. See blurb about Well of Ascension above. I've heard that there's quite a few twists in this one, so I'm going to have to be prepared!

The Wish Granter by C.J. Redwine: You know, Redwine is probably the most underrated author I know. Her writing is stunning and gorgeous, and she treats her fans wonderfully. Her retelling of Snow White in The Shadow Queen had me begging for more of her high fantasy world, and I'm excited to see what she does with this retelling of Rumpelstiltskin!

Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton: I fell in love with the first book. It was fresh and new, full of creativity incorporating both old threads of magic with more new concepts of the era. Though I'm a little annoyed they changed the cover (sigh...I have the first book with the original cover, so I'm going to have to make do with this new one for my shelf), it's the story inside it that counts. Though if the title is any indication, things are going to go south very soon...

And that's it! I'm also hoping to get my hands on Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare soon (if all goes well, then I'll have it this week...fingers crossed!), but if I do, I probably will have to save it for my next book haul post to introduce it.

What new books have you guys gotten recently? Have you read any of these? Any that look interesting? Let me know!

Happy reading!

  1. I'm totally still trying to get to the Sarah J. Maas novels. It's not happening lmao. Someday.. Somedayyyy.

I don't know how I'd feel about the super-thin pages, though! There's a point where it does become too delicate to handle properly.. Plus it can be annoying to read. But same goes for being too thick, so.. eh. It's all a balance, right?! :p

Three Dark Crowns looks interesting, too! Enjoy your summer reads! I'm with you on disliking heat. ;)

    Edge of Night

    1. Oh finally, someone else who isn't a fan of the heat! It drives me crazy :p
Thanks, and hope you'll read some of SJM's works soon!

  2. AhHH I really want to get Dark Prophecy but haven't be able to visit the bookstore! Hopefully soon!

    1. Hopefully you'll get to it soon! Fingers crossed for you :)

  3. I don’t like heat, either. If I’m going to read, I want it to be in the air conditioning. Enjoy your new books!

Aj @ Read All The Things!

    1. Thanks! Air conditioned-reading rooms for the win, haha ;)
